United American Indian Involvement (UAII) promotes the physical, behavioral, and spiritual well-being of American Indian and Alaskan Native communities in the urban Los Angeles area while preserving our cultures and traditions.
We provide healthcare that is culturally sensitive and inclusive of all patients, as well as community programs developed by and for our Native and Indigenous communities.
We provide access to culturally sensitive healthcare, clinical services, case management, and health education that is culturally sensitive and open to all.
We offer evidence-based and culturally appropriate programs for substance use, workforce development, elder services, and much more for our Native and Indigenous community.

UAII was established in 1974 on the streets of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles by two empowered Native women.
Over the past five decades, we’ve become the largest nonprofit provider of health and human services for American Indians and Alaskan Natives in L.A., the largest urban center in the country. Today, we provide healthcare services for the community.

September 30 is Orange Shirt Day, a day to honor residential school survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home. 🧡
What began with Phyllis Webstad’s story and the orange shirt taken from her on her first day of residential school has grown into a powerful reminder: Every Child Matters.
Today, we wear orange to remember. We listen to the stories of survivors. We acknowledge the lasting impact residential schools have had on Native and Indigenous families and communities. And we continue the work toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.
For UAII, this commitment extends beyond one day. It lives in how we care for one another, strengthen community, honor culture, and create spaces where Native people can feel seen, supported, and connected.
We are excited to announce our Paint and Plant event at the UAII Community Center. Join us for an evening of gathering with community to paint our own pots and plant succulents to take home!

UAII recently welcomed Commissioner Gabriela Shapiro, attorneys, and representatives from the Edelman Children’s Court ICWA Program to learn more about our programs and visit our new Family Visitation Rooms at the Boys & Girls Club. 🤎
Created with families in mind, these rooms provide a safe, welcoming, and culturally supportive space for parents and children to spend meaningful time together while navigating the DCFS process. Our Family Visitation Rooms are designed to feel more like home and less like an institutional setting, helping families stay connected while working toward reunification.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to share this space, strengthen partnerships, and continue creating solutions that help Native families feel seen, supported, and connected to community.

Today, on California Native American Day, we honor the sovereignty, strength, cultures, and continued presence of California’s Tribal Nations and Native peoples. 🧡
Here in Los Angeles, our Native identity continues to live through our families, our traditions, our communities, and the ways we care for one another.
At UAII, we are proud to stand strong in that identity and create space for our urban Native community to stay connected to culture, care, resources, and one another.
We honor what came before us. We strengthen what is here today. And together, we carry it forward for the generations still to come.

A weekend rooted in culture, connection, and community.
Our Women’s Retreat brought Native women together for a meaningful weekend of cultural experiences, creativity, storytelling, and connection with the Gila River Indian Community. From learning and creating together to sharing meals and conversations, the retreat offered space for women to build community, honor culture, and strengthen relationships.
Near or far, we are grateful for the connections that make our community thrive. 🪶🧡

UAII Workforce Development recently connected with our partners at OC Workforce Solutions as we continue working together to support our communities along their educational and career journeys.
Our team also joined the Equus Workforce Solutions Resource Fair at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center, connecting with local resources and creating new opportunities for collaboration.

Tribe of the Month continues with a closer look at the culture and traditions of the Cherokee Nation.
From the Cherokee language and generations of storytelling to ceremony, arts, stickball, and other traditional games, Cherokee culture continues to be practiced, shared, and carried forward.

UAII is honored to partner with Indigenous educator Thosh Collins for a monthly Indigenous Men’s Healing Circle, a space created for Indigenous men and young men to connect, reflect, heal, and grow together.
Through movement, guided visualization, ceremony, and meaningful conversations, participants will explore identity, wellness, sobriety, relationships, leadership, and cultural responsibility while building strong connections with other Indigenous relatives.
