We provide healthcare that is culturally sensitive and inclusive of all patients, as well as community programs developed by and for our Native and Indigenous communities.
We provide access to culturally sensitive healthcare, clinical services, case management, and health education that is culturally sensitive and open to all.
We offer evidence-based and culturally appropriate programs for substance use, workforce development, elder services, and much more for our Native and Indigenous community.
Since our founding, we’ve delivered programs that promote the growth and well-being of our youth while passing on our cultural knowledge and tribal values.

UAII was established in 1974 on the streets of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles by two empowered Native women.
Over the past five decades, we’ve become the largest nonprofit provider of health and human services for American Indians and Alaskan Natives in L.A., the largest urban center in the country. Today, we provide healthcare services for the community.

Here in Los Angeles, our Native identity continues to live through our families, our traditions, our communities, and the ways we care for one another.

A weekend rooted in culture, connection, and community.
Our Women’s Retreat brought Native women together for a meaningful weekend of cultural experiences, creativity, storytelling, and connection with the Gila River Indian Community. From learning and creating together to sharing meals and conversations, the retreat offered space for women to build community, honor culture, and strengthen relationships.
Near or far, we are grateful for the connections that make our community thrive. 🪶🧡

UAII will be closed tomorrow, Friday, September 25, in observance of California Native American Day. We take this day to honor the histories, cultures, resilience, and continued presence of California’s Native peoples and Tribal Nations.
UAII Workforce Development recently connected with our partners at OC Workforce Solutions as we continue working together to support our communities along their educational and career journeys.
Our team also joined the Equus Workforce Solutions Resource Fair at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center, connecting with local resources and creating new opportunities for collaboration.
We’re grateful for the partnerships that help us connect community members with the tools, resources, and support they need to take their next step. 🙌🏼
Tribe of the Month continues with a closer look at the culture and traditions of the Cherokee Nation.
From the Cherokee language and generations of storytelling to ceremony, arts, stickball, and other traditional games, Cherokee culture continues to be practiced, shared, and carried forward.

UAII is honored to partner with Indigenous educator Thosh Collins for a monthly Indigenous Men’s Healing Circle, a space created for Indigenous men and young men to connect, reflect, heal, and grow together.
Through movement, guided visualization, ceremony, and meaningful conversations, participants will explore identity, wellness, sobriety, relationships, leadership, and cultural responsibility while building strong connections with other Indigenous relatives.

UAII returns home!
Our story began at 118 Winston Street, where Mariam Zucco and Baba Cooper started United American Indian Involvement as a grassroots organization. We are proud to announce that UAII is coming back to where it all started: we’re opening our sixth location at 118 Winston Street to serve our relatives on Skid Row. We’ll carry on the legacy Mariam and Baba began. 🧡
