Robert Sundance Summer Camp

Since our humble beginnings in 1990 with just a handful of kids, two staff members, and donated food, over the years our summer camp has served thousands of youth through this program. We celebrate our motto: “Different Clans, One Nation, Our Dream for Future Alcohol-Free Generations.”

What Makes Our Summer Camp Unique

Supported by UAII programs and our partner organizations, our week-long residential summer camp offers a wide range of outdoor and social activities. We give youth the opportunity to share our American Indian culture with each other in a relaxing environment through programs infused with our heritage.

  • Hiking, swimming, fishing, and camping
  • Arts and crafts, theater, and games
  • American Indian programming
  • Participants from all over California and Arizona

A new vision for the youth in our community.

When UAII was founded on Skid Row in downtown L.A. in 1974, the leadership wanted to find ways to help our youth escape the concrete jungle. Through the vision of early American Indian advocate Robert Sundance and our former CEO David Rambeau, our summer camp opened doors to new opportunities for our youth.

Our camp is designed for American Indian youth ages 5-12, with a limited number of spots reserved for teenagers ages 13-18 to participate as Counselors in Training. The camp is provided at no cost to campers.
