Healthy Activities – SAGE Project Stays on Target

In early July, restrictions were lessened on small group interactions and the UAII Clubhouse and SAGE Project used the opportunity to improve the skills of a few of our team members. Through a mix of online training and in-person instruction, our staff successfully certified several new Level 1 Archery Instructors. This included new staff, parent volunteers, and our teen Archery Team Captains.

While practicing plenty of social distancing and wearing masks, the training was completed at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. Archery, being a non-contact sport, naturally incorporates a good deal of social distancing and is a great alternative at this time for outdoor recreation.

We are encouraging our team members to continue practicing their skills until we’re able to safely reunite. We have even offered to check-out archery gear to our club members for themselves and their families, in order to continue engaging in this traditional and healthy activity.

The CORONAVIRUS has become a pressing issue in our community, and the programs of UAII are following local and state mandates that have been set to lessen the spread of the virus. Based on those recommendations, the SAGE Project has switched our in-person activities to online interactions.

The SAGE Project has also worked with a local, Native-owned business (Native Printz) to create masks for our community that will be distributed soon. We are all in this together.

We must act now to make changes in the way we protect ourselves and our families from this virus. We canensure that we wash our hands frequently and wear a mask around others. Most importantly, we must take steps to get healthier as a community. This is perhaps the most important way we can prevent this virus from hindering our future.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
