[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Our organization is excited to announce that we have received funding from the County of Los Angeles to hire 30 temporary workers starting now through the end of December 2020. This important partnership will allow UAII to hire those members who are struggling financially during the winter months. It will also allow UAII to continue to highlight the resources currently available to our community during the pandemic, linking our clients to additional services and resources across Los Angeles.
COVID-19 has forced us to adapt and make the necessary changes to meet the needs of our community. During this important time, we have continued to provide essential services such as operating our LA American Indian Community Clinic, providing meals for our most needy clients, and offering care packages and personal protective equipment (PPE) for our clients. This new funding will allow us to continue to do this work while expanding to ensure that our clients are aware of all the wrap-around services we provide, encourage COVID-19 testing, update our emergency safety plan, and prepare to take part in the recovery process.
Our temporary employees will be called Community Health Workers and will work across several departments, including Workforce Development and Training, American Indian Clubhouse, and our Health Project. The workers will be hired from within our community to help us publicize the many resources available at UAII, provide education about the pandemic for others to understand and take precautions, and to assist with linkages and follow-ups with other community-based organizations and services across the county. We will also be highlighting the move of our Main Office location along with making sure everyone is aware of our satellite locations in Cerritos/Norwalk, Palmdale/Lancaster, and Santa Ana (Orange County).
During this time, we will begin to update all of our printed materials, create and premiere short videos that will help educate the community of the impact of COVID-19, share ideas on how to protect you and your families, and promote getting tested in our health clinic. We know you can go anywhere across the county and find terrific services, but we know you continue to utilize UAII because you are getting the best care from people who truly understand and care about you and our community.
We will continue to seek opportunities and partnerships that help us expand our work to provide valuable resources and services during the pandemic. We are looking toward a future where we can assist in the recovery of COVID-19 should a vaccine become available, helping ensure that our clients have housing, and assisting those who have lost their employment back into jobs and economic security. Together we will get through this. And we will share with you any changes that come up as we enter 2021.
