The Healthcare Cultural Accountability Council (HCAC) is a newly established advisory body at UAII created to preserve cultural alignment in our healthcare services.
This Council’s core purpose is to ensure that every aspect of UAII’s healthcare delivery is guided by and accountable to the cultural values, traditions and expectations of the Native community we serve.
The HCAC will consist of five members, including the following:
- 2 seats: Respected Tribal cultural leaders with knowledge of traditional healing and wellness
- 1 seat: Indigenous community culture bearer
- 1 seat: UAII board member
- 1 seat: UAII staff member
Members will meet regularly to:
- Review policies, protocols and patient experience practices for cultural integrity
- Recommend changes to ensure care environments are welcoming, safe and culturally grounded
- Advise on integration of traditional healing perspectives alongside Western medical care
Provide guidance on culturally sensitive communication, outreach and health education
