UAII Workforce Development to Spearhead new CDC funded Community Health Worker Initiative 

On September 3rd, 2021, United American Indian Involvement, Inc. (UAII), which for the last 47 years has provided human and health services for American Indian and Alaskan Native families in the counties of Los Angeles and Orange, announced that it was selected to receive a $1 million per year grant for the next three years from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Through this funding a new UAII Community Health Worker (CHW) Outreach Initiative, led by the UAII Workforce Development Department, will train and deploy community health workers throughout select areas of Southern California.

The primary goal of the UAII CHW Outreach Initiative will be to address health disparities for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs). Our new CHWS will work to increase access to crucial COVID-19 services such as vaccinations, testing, contact tracing, and personal protective equipment. In addition to COVID-19 education and outreach, this new initiative will promote health literacy and preventive measures for the early detection of diseases.

UAII Community Health Workers will also serve as a member of our integrated health team connecting the Indigenous community with UAII health and human services and linkages to partner organization services.
