UAII to Join Vigil
On Sunday, November 14th, the United American Indian Involvement, Inc. (UAII) will be joining other community partners in a candlelight vigil across the street from the steps of L.A. City Hall. The event will take place at Grand Park in downtown, L.A. from 6 pm – 9 pm and will feature the UAII teepee which will be erected and lit up in orange in order to bring awareness to those impacted by U.S. Boarding Schools.
The event comes after the September 30th National Day of Recognition and the recent decision by lawmakers such as U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland (Laguna), and Congresswomen, Sharice Davis (Ho-Chunk Nation), shared their support of the creation of a commission to investigate the U.S. Boarding Schools policies and detrimental impact on Native peoples.
The event was made possible by the work of our Board member, Keith Vielle, and the support of many of our community partners across the City/ County of Los Angeles. We look forward to bringing the issues that continue to impact our community to the forefront of awareness and advocacy for change in Los Angeles. #WearOrange #NeverForget
